      GB/T 23858-2009 is China's national standard for "Manhole Covers". It was proposed by the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development and managed by the Technical Committee for Standardization of Water Supply and Drainage Products. It was issued on May 27, 2009 and implemented on February 1, 2010. It regulates the entire process of production and inspection of manhole covers. The key points are as follows:

1. Scope of application and basic framework

Applicable to various types of manhole covers (including round, square, etc., such as ductile iron manhole covers with square frames and round covers) on urban roads and public places, and stipulates term definitions, classification structures, materials, requirements, test methods, inspection rules, and marking, packaging, transportation, and storage content.

2. Interpretation of core content

Classification and structure:

According to the load-bearing capacity: divided into A15 (pedestrians/bicycles), B125 (community/light vehicles), C250 (roadside/parking lot), D400 (urban trunk road/heavy vehicles), E600 (port/airport), F900 (heavy industry/special high load) grades, clarifying the load standards of manhole covers suitable for different scenarios.
According to the material: covering ductile iron, steel fiber concrete, composite materials, etc., and having corresponding index requirements for the performance of each material (such as tensile strength and toughness of ductile iron).
Structural form: including the connection between the manhole cover and the support, anti-settlement/anti-theft/anti-noise design and other specifications, such as the manhole cover and the support need to be adapted to ensure stability and normal function after installation.

Materials and requirements:

Materials: For raw materials such as cast iron (spheroidization rate, chemical composition), concrete (strength grade), and composite materials (matrix/reinforcement material performance), the composition and performance parameters are clearly defined to ensure the quality foundation of the manhole cover.

Performance requirements:

Dimensional deviation: The dimensions of the manhole cover, such as diameter, side length, thickness, and the tolerance of the support are strictly limited to ensure installation and adaptation.
Appearance quality: There are no defects such as cracks and sand holes on the surface, and the pattern/text is clear to ensure beauty and function.
Bearing performance: Manhole covers of different bearing levels must meet the corresponding load requirements after pressure testing, and there must be no cracks or obvious deformation after the test.
Anti-theft, anti-settling and other functions: If an anti-theft structure (such as a lock) is designed, it must be stable and reliable; the anti-settling manhole cover must meet the performance of still fitting with the road surface after the road settles.

Test and inspection:

Test method: specify the operation procedures such as load test (loading with pressure testing machine), dimension measurement (gauge accuracy requirements), appearance inspection (visual/gauge assisted) to ensure the accuracy of test data.
Inspection rules: divided into factory inspection (batch by batch or sampling, check size, appearance, load, etc.) and type inspection (new products/conversion/regular, etc., comprehensive inspection of standard items), clarify the judgment rules, and ensure that the product quality is controllable.

Marking, packaging, etc.:

Marking: The manhole cover needs to be marked with the load-bearing level, manufacturer name, trademark, production date, etc., for easy identification and quality traceability.

 
      Packaging, transportation, storage: The packaging should be protected from damage, transportation should avoid violent collisions, and the storage environment should be dry and ventilated to prevent the manhole cover from rusting and deformation, which will affect the performance.
