Square Heavy Ductile Iron Manhole Cover Load-Bearing Grade E600

 

        Manhole covers with a load rating of E600 are high-load grade manhole covers classified according to the European EN124 standard. They are often made of high-strength materials such as ductile iron. The following is an introduction from multiple aspects:


1. Load and performance core


Load capacity: E600 represents a manhole cover with a design load of 600 kilonewtons (kN), which can withstand a static load of about 60 tons, and can cope with high-frequency rolling of heavy vehicles, such as special vehicles at airports and docks.


Material adaptation: Ductile iron is mostly used (some high-end scenarios also have composite materials + reinforced structures). Ductile iron is spheroidized and inoculated, with a tensile strength of ≥420MPa and excellent toughness, ensuring that it is not easy to break or deform under high loads, and adapting to the strength requirements of E600.


2. Application scenarios


Special areas with high loads:


Airports: around runways and aprons, bearing the heavy pressure of aircraft and ground handling vehicles, high loads are required to ensure the safety of runway structures.
Docks/ports: Container trucks and lifting equipment frequently pass through, and the E600 manhole cover can withstand heavy mechanical loads to prevent manhole cover damage from affecting operations.
Heavy industrial plants: such as steel mills and shipyards, where the transport vehicles on site are extremely heavy, and the E600 manhole cover is suitable for such extreme load environments.


Traffic nodes with strict safety requirements: highway toll stations, bridge ramps, etc., where traffic is concentrated and heavy trucks pass through, high-load manhole covers are required to ensure the stability of road facilities.

 

3. Product design and testing


Structural design:
Cover/frame reinforcement: By thickening key stress-bearing parts (such as the center of the manhole cover and the frame connection), optimizing the rib layout (cross/radial reinforcement ribs), dispersing the load and improving the overall compression resistance.
Sealing and anti-theft: Some E600 manhole covers are equipped with double seals (to prevent debris/water infiltration) and anti-theft locks (to prevent illegal opening and loss), taking into account functionality and safety.


Testing standards: Before leaving the factory, it must undergo strict load testing, simulating a 600kN static load for a certain period of time (such as the loading procedure required by the EN124 standard). After the test, the manhole cover must be free of cracks and obvious deformation (the residual deformation meets the standard) to be qualified, ensuring stability and reliability in actual use.
